How much does a locksmith cost in London?
City Locksmith London operates transparent, fixed pricing with no call-out fee: emergency door opening from £79, lock change labour from £69, lock re-key from £55, car key programming from £85, and car lockout from £109. VAT at 20% is confirmed upfront and the price quoted is the price you pay - no surprises, no hidden charges.
As a guide, an emergency door opening starts from £79 and a lock change starts from £69 for labour. Car key programming starts from £85. These are starting prices for standard jobs in normal hours - the exact figure depends on the lock type, the time of day, and any parts you need. We confirm the full price before any work begins, and we never charge a call-out fee.
London rates can run a little higher than the UK average. Travel time across the capital, the Congestion Charge, ULEZ and parking all add to the real cost of reaching you, so honest London locksmiths price accordingly. We keep this fair and transparent rather than padding the bill. We cover all of Greater London and the outer boroughs, including the central London congestion zone, with a 25-minute response target.
For a deeper look at how London locksmith costs compare and what drives the final figure, read our guide to how much a locksmith costs in London. If your vehicle has been affected, our separate guide covers how much it costs to replace a car key.
What affects the price of a locksmith?
No two jobs are identical, which is why we quote "from" prices and confirm the exact total before starting. These are the main factors that move the price up or down.
Lock type
A euro cylinder, mortice deadlock, rim nightlatch and uPVC multipoint mechanism all cost different amounts. A standard cylinder is cheaper than a British Standard or anti-snap TS007 3-star upgrade.
Door type
A wooden door with a single cylinder is quick to work on. uPVC and composite doors with a multipoint locking mechanism take longer and need different parts.
Time of day
Standard daytime rates apply to booked jobs in normal hours. Evening, weekend and bank-holiday emergency call-outs may carry a premium, always agreed upfront.
Parts and materials
A budget cylinder costs less than a Sold Secure SS312 Diamond or high-security anti-snap upgrade. The lock part is quoted separately from labour and confirmed before fitting.
Job complexity
A clean, non-destructive entry costs less than a snapped-key extraction, a seized lock, or break-in and boarding-up repair after a forced entry.
London factors
Travel time, the Congestion Charge, ULEZ and parking can affect call-outs across the capital. We keep these honest and never inflate them.
Lock change prices by lock type
These are labour starting prices for a lock change. The lock part itself is quoted separately and confirmed before any work, because the price depends on the brand and security tier you choose. To understand the types of locks and British Standard ratings, see our lock types guide.
| Lock type | Labour (excl. VAT) |
|---|---|
| Euro cylinder Standard or anti-snap / TS007 3-star upgrade for uPVC and composite doors. | From £69 |
| Mortice deadlock (3 & 5-lever) Including BS3621 insurance-approved 5-lever locks for timber doors. | From £69 |
| Rim cylinder / nightlatch Yale-style night latches, including British Standard BS3621 nightlatches. | From £69 |
| uPVC multipoint mechanism Gearbox and multipoint strip replacement on uPVC and composite doors. | From £99 |
| Smart / digital lock Supply and fit of keyless and smart locks. | From £129/hour |
Need a uPVC multipoint mechanism replacement, a smart lock installation or fresh lock installation, or car key and auto locksmith prices? We supply quality, branded locks that meet British Standards such as BS3621, and only fit a high-security anti-snap cylinder if you want one.
Standard, emergency and out-of-hours rates
Our standard daytime rate applies to jobs booked in normal working hours. Because we are available 24/7, 365 days a year, you can also call us out at night, at weekends and on bank holidays. Those emergency and out-of-hours rates may carry a premium on the standard price, but we always confirm the total upfront so there are no surprises.
Even in an emergency, there is no call-out fee, and we aim to reach you within 25 minutes. Whether you are locked out of your house at 3am or need a lock changed after a lost key, you pay only for the work done plus the agreed parts.

Why Our Pricing Is Fair
No Call-Out Fee
Unlike many locksmiths, we never charge just to come to your door. You only pay for the work done.
Upfront Quotes
We confirm the price before we start. If the price changes for any reason, we discuss it with you first.
Quality Parts
We only use quality, branded locks that meet British Standards. No cheap substitutes that fail after months.
How to avoid being overcharged by a locksmith
Locksmithing is an unregulated trade in the UK - there is no official licence to become a locksmith. That makes it doubly important to get a clear quote before any work starts, and to know what to ask. These are the questions worth asking any locksmith before you book.
- Is the price fixed or just an estimate? A reputable locksmith will give you a firm price, or a clear range, before turning up.
- Is VAT included? Our prices are shown excluding VAT, with 20% added to the final invoice. Always check whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive of VAT.
- Is labour charged per hour or per job? Know which it is, and roughly how long the job should take, so you can sense-check the final bill.
- Is there a call-out fee? Many firms add £50 to £95 just to attend. We do not charge one.
- What does the "from" price cover? Check whether the headline figure includes the lock part or only the labour.
Be wary of a very low advertised price that balloons once the locksmith arrives - the classic bait-and-switch. It is always sensible to get more than one quote. We position ourselves as the transparent choice: no call-out fee, an upfront quote, and the price confirmed before we start. What our customers say
Real jobs, real Londoners. A few words from people we have helped.
Honest pricing and didn't try to upsell me a new lock when a repair would do. Told me straight what the cost would be and that's what I paid. Will use them again.
Rang around three locksmiths. These were the only ones to give me a straight price on the phone with no vague rubbish. Stuck to the quote exactly, no surprise extras. That's why they got the job.
What I liked was no call out fee and a clear price before he started. Paid by card, got a receipt. Refreshing compared to the last locksmith I used who doubled the bill at the door.
Quick to answer, quick to arrive, and the engineer clearly took pride in the job. Explained everything in plain English without talking down to me. Hard to find these days.
Second time I've used City Locksmith and same good experience both times. On time, polite, knows their trade and charges fairly. Saved their number in my phone now.
Friendly, fast and honest, which is all you really want from a locksmith. Sorted my problem the same day and didn't make me feel daft for the mistake that caused it. Top marks.
Reliable from the first phone call to the finished job. No drama, no mess, fair money. Recommended them to two neighbours already and both were happy too.
